Summer of LOVE

After her Autumn/Winter ‘22 season’s enthusiastic homage to May ‘68, Sonia Rykiel infuses her summer line with a yearnin...g for revelry. Revolutionary fervor is placated by the onset of warmer days that bring a free-wheeling French Summer of Love. Don’t be fooled though: once the turbulence subsides, an overflow of creative energy spills forth, coupled with a strong desire for togetherness.

The Rykiel woman is never where we expect her, surprising us any time of day, from morning to night and dusk ‘til dawn. When day breaks, she dons lightweight fabrics (twill, silk chiffon, viscose) and playful knits — a tennis dress with sheer inserts hidden in its pleats. On and off the court, flat-pleated mini-skirts flutter to the rhythm of her body. Later in the day, the Rykiel woman beats the asphalt heat with a fresh rainbow of pastel colors, punctuated by lemon yellow, pale pink, baby blue and iconic touches of red and black. In a nod to the past, Madame Rykiel’s favored plump cherries blossom into psychedelic shapes, polka dots, stripes and flowers.
